City Marks Overdose Awareness Day

Thunder Bay’s Drug Strategy hopes the public will use this week to think about those we lost to drug overdoses.

They are marking International Overdose Awareness Day ahead of its August 31st date.

A special ceremony is taking place today and spokesperson Cynthia Olsen tells us they will be remembering people who have passed away.

“Individuals [can] write a small tribute to somebody that they love who may have died of an overdose, and at the event we will tie those tributes to a tree that we planted a number of years ago in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day.”

Olsen tells us they’ll also be teaching people about how they can help prevent overdose deaths.

“From knowing the signs and symptoms of an overdose, to how you can prevent an overdose, [and] we are going to be providing naloxone training and overdose prevention training.”

The event is taking place from 11 until 1:30 today at Victoriaville in the Village Green.
