One Councillor is raising alarms about a fund that is being discontinued at the end of the year.
Current River Councillor Andrew Foulds says the District Social Services Administration Board is stopping the Community Social Re-investment Program, which helps a number of local services.
Those include the Boys and Girls Club, the Community Clothing Assistance Program, Shelter House, and many food assistance programs.
“I suspect, for example, the United Way is going to get a lot more asks,” Foulds says.
The Councillor predicts the city will also get more financial requests from those groups to make up for the lost funding.
He says the program is being stopped because it is not mandatory, and the Board is trying to find savings as it expects more provincial funding cuts next year.
Foulds explains the program was previously supported through other funding, but the DSSAB has been funding the CSRP on its own since 2016.
