OPP Visit North Caribou Lake First Nation

A learning experience for members of the Provincial Police.

A team of officers just finished a trip to the remote community of North Caribou Lake First Nation.

They met with a couple who’s in charge of the Family and Well-Being program, which ensures the community is still rooted in the original Oji-Cree traditions such as catching fish with long nets.

The officers then learned how to prepare walleye eggs and pemmican using traditional methods and how to remove feathers from geese and how to smoke fish.

They add it was a great experience, stressing the local community members were friendly and inviting.
