Thunder Bay Officially A Lyme Disease Risk Area

Thunder Bay is now considered by the province as a designated risk area for Lyme disease.

Thunder Bay’s Health Unit spokesperson Lee Sieswerda tells us the classification actually makes their job easier in tracking official cases of lyme disease.

“When a person presents to their physician with a tick bite and you are from this area, now the doctor can actually report it as an official case of lyme disease. This means the health unit can now start counting the official cases of lyme disease reported.”

The health unit was aware the area had black legged ticks infected with the disease in the past, the only change is we’ve now made it onto the provincial map.
