Shane Judge Taking Second Run For Mayor

Another candidate enters the race for mayor.

Shane Judge is planning to file his nomination papers on Monday for his second run for the city’s top job.

Judge says one of his main goals is to cut down the city’s spending, which he feels is out of control.

“I’m growing increasingly disappointed and concerned that now we have record debt, our reserve funds are considered risky, and I just felt compelled to step forward and say we’ve got to change things,” Judge explained this afternoon.

Judge notes that he also wants to find between $17 and $18 million in savings to invest into reserves and to pay down debt.

“That will get us through the rough times we’re about to enter.”

He also feels he could slim down City Council to just nine councillors if he’s elected, along with eliminating the ward system.

“You no longer need to live in a ward to run in that ward. So why bother with wards?” Judge argues.

He suggests that reducing the number of seats at the Council table will also save the city money in the long run.

Council rejected a motion to consult the public on the number and type of councillors elected.

Judge says he’s “offering the public an opportunity to give their say, ‘We want change’,” when it comes to the make-up of Council.
