The city is working towards becoming one of around 15 Blue Communities in Canada.
At last night’s meeting, council voted in favour of phasing-out the distribution of single-use bottled water at city events.
Major events like Canada Day, and private events on city property, would be exempt from the bottle water ban.
Blue Communities promote the human right to water and protection of our waterways by adopting a number of resolutions such as this one.
