The Harper government is critical of the way the province of Ontario is handling the Ring of Fire file.
Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford says while the province has announced the make up of the new Development Corporation board, it’s more noticeable for who is not on it.
Rickford says he’s disappointed Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle’s announcement didn’t reflect the interests of First Nations, the private sector or the federal government.
Instead he notes the board is made up of provincial bureaucrats.
Rickford says he’s hoping the province keeps its promise to open the lines of communication between all stakeholders in the proposed giant mining project.
Meantime Rickford is still suggesting the Build Canada Fund is the way to leverage federal dollars for the giant mining project.
The province has been challenging the feds to match their one billion dollar commitment.
