New Citizens

Canada has some new citizens.
46 people from across the globe received their Canadian citizenship this morning at a ceremony at Confederation College, officially making them Canadian citizens.
Ariya Masoudi was born in Iran, but says he doesn’t have much time to celebrate today because he has to go back to school. Masoudi came to Thunder Bay several years ago with his family.
Reind Vanderdeen is another new citizen. He says he came to Canada from Holland in 1979, with only a backpack and a few hundred dollars. Vanderdeen says he was in western Canada for most of his 40 years spent in the country, but has settled in Thunder Bay.
Esko Sulku also received his citizenship today. Sulku is originally from Finland, and says he’s been waiting 45 years to become a citizen. Sulku says he came to Thunder Bay to get
married, and has been here ever since.
Confederation College President Jim Madder was on hand for the ceremony, along with
Thunder Bay MP’s John Rafferty and Bruce Hyer.
