A Lakehead University political science professor says she is somewhat surprised by the provincial election results.
Laure Paquette says province wide she didn’t think that Kathleen Wynne would get a majority government and believes the premier is fortunate her poor performance in the televised debate wasn’t a factor at the polls.
Locally she says she was surprised that Bill Mauro won by as wide a margin as he did over the NDP.
Paquette predicts Mauro may have to relinquish his recently aquired cabinet post since Wynne will have some newly elected MPPs to keep happy.
She also says the premier will be expected to keep her promises as they relate to the Ring of Fire mining development and health care. (File photo)
