It’s a relief for Rick Mercuri, the owner of the Central Auto Parts.
He says the Police Services Board has agreed to a 1.6 million dollar settlement with him after he was acquitted in 2005 of dealing in stolen auto parts.
Mercuri says he’s happy the ordeal is over, but doesn’t feel vindicated saying it’s something that will stay with him always.
Mercuri says he went to court to simply recover the expenses of defending himself and doesn’t consider the the 1.6 million as an award.
Police Chief J. P. Levesque is leaving open the possbility of an appeal.
