$56,000 For Local COVID-19 Projects

Vulnerable seniors and shut-ins will get food hampers thanks to some funding for COVID-19 related projects.

The food delivery program by the Lakehead Social Planning Council is getting $10,000 from the Thunder Bay Community Relief Fund.

The fund is supporting over $56,000 worth of projects through its latest investments.

Just over $6,000 is going to the Regional Food Distribution Association to buy personal protective equipment for their workers.

The fund is giving another $10,000 for a lunch program in the Vale and Limbrick area through the Boys and Girls Club. The organization will continue to provide nutrition programs to replace the healthy snack, cooking and supper programs that currently can’t operate due to the pandemic.

Elevate NWO is getting $14,000 of the money to help people living with HIV or Hepatitis C, or who are on certain medications. It’s meant to provide resources to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and ensure those groups continue to receive treatment and support.

This is the second round of funding from the Relief Fund, and organizations can continue to apply through the Thunder Bay Community Foundation.
