The popular Catch the Ace lottery is back in support of the United Way and Port Arthur Rotary Club.
United Way CEO Albert Brulé says tickets are now available for the progressive jackpot, with half the proceeds going to programs helping local people and families in need.
“It’s a fun and safe way to help support individuals and organizations that are struggling to make ends meet, and you have a chance to win a lot of money too while you’re at it,” he says.
Tickets start at ten for $10, with weekly draws every Thursday and a $5,000 minimum prize.
A ticket lets you choose which envelope you think has the Ace of Spades. If your ticket is drawn, you win the weekly cash prize and your envelope is checked to see if it contains the Ace. Each incorrect card is removed from the raffle, increasing the chances for next week’s draw.
“The past few months have tested all of us in ways we could not have ever imagined. We have friends and neighbours who were already vulnerable, struggling to make ends meet or put food on the table. It’s been exceptionally difficult and sometimes heartbreaking. The need for vital supports only continues to increase,” says Brulé.
Our Kids Count, Roots to Harvest, Shelter House and the Dew Drop Inn will be the first four charities to benefit from the raffle.
The raffle is taking place entirely online this year due to gathering restrictions.
