Christmas Cheer is ready to hand out hampers at the CLE Coliseum, with a few changes due to the pandemic.
Chair Joleene Kemp explains it will be different than previous years, with volunteers bringing each person’s hamper to them outside the building.
She says recipients will have to be patient because physical distancing and gathering limits are expected to slow down the pick-up process.
North-side families can pick up their gift box today from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, while those on the south side can stop by from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday and 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM Wednesday.
However, Kemp says the most important thing is to stop by when you are able to, no matter where you live.
“We don’t want to have any hampers left when we get to seven o’clock on Wednesday,” she emphasizes.
If you can’t go to pick up your reserved hamper, Kemp says to send someone with a written note giving them your permission to retrieve it. She adds they also prefer to see the I.D. of the recipient “so that we make sure everything is up and above board.”
You will also be required to screen for COVID-19 symptoms and wear a mask.
Acadia Broadcasting’s 36 Hours of Cheer helped bring in almost $261,000 for Christmas Cheer last week.
