The price tag for the Marina Park overpass is going up by half a million dollars.
The project was supposed to be finished by now, but the repairs uncovered unexpected damage to the steel structure. The extra time needed to fix that means the overpass won’t be back in place until August 2021.
City Project Engineer Mike Vogrig says the extra cost for the repairs came as a surprise.
“It’s kind of a case where all the things that could have gone wrong in terms of the steel testing and steel condition did go wrong, so that resulted in us having to do a significant amount of extra work and increasing the budget quite a bit,” Vogrig says.
City Council is being asked to add the cost to the 2021 budget discussions, which would bring the project cost to around $1.8-million if approved.
