Bus Fare Collection On The Horizon

It remains to be seen how long it’ll be before you have to pay again to ride Thunder Bay transit.

With ridership dropping 30-40% of normal levels during the COVID-19 pandemic, officials say they’re monitoring customer demand, and adjustments to service levels and frequencies have been made.

Transit is waiting to bring back fare collection at some point, as well as front door boarding, and installing barrier shields around the driver will likely be considered.

As the economy took a hit from COVID-19, fares were cancelled, and rear boarding was implemented in an effort to keep customers and drivers safe. It also implemented measures to keep passengers physically distanced.
