The head of the Northwest Legal Clinic says the trickle down effect of budget cuts to Legal Aid Ontario are being felt locally.
Trudy McCormick says two staff lawyer vacancies in Kenora can’t be filled because of a hiring freeze, and people seeking help are being turned away at all of their offices
McCormick says it’s leaving the most vulnerable with no where to go.
“That is the part that scares me the most because they really don’t have a next step other than being on the streets.”
McCormick says staff in Fort Frances are also having to pick up some of the workload at the short-staffed Kenora office.
