Firefighters Deal With Edward St. Blaze

Nobody was hurt in an overnight fire at a vacant south-side home.

City firefighters were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from the basement, where they believe the fire started.

They were called out at 10:30 last night to the 900 block of Edward Street South, between Empire Avenue and Christina Street East.

Crews quickly knocked the fire down, and kept it from spreading to a nearby home.

Nobody was home when they arrived.

They are investigating the cause of the blaze.
