Ontario is enlisting the Rick Hanson Foundation to see how accessible the province is.
The Foundation will be promoting an Accessibility Certification program.
Rick Hanson says they’re starting by reviewing 250 public buildings before ramping up the program.
“We want to really celebrate those that are certified, and especially certified gold, because if we can see the examples of success, we can also be inspired. If they can do it, so can everyone else.”
The program will start in the fall, and roll out in selected communities over the next two years.
“We want to be able to get enough deep data over the long term as we scale this up, to have an annual index on our accessibility performance in the built environment,” Hanson adds.
The province is helping train certificated inspectors with a $1.3-million contribution.
