20-Year Transportation Plan Returning In Fall

The city now has a better understanding of the future of its transportation network.

Last night, City Councillors accepted a first report on the Transportation Master Plan, which outlines its approach to cycling, walking, transit, and driving for the next 20 years.

It identifies some priorities like creating a Road Safety Action Plan, a “Fort-to-Port” north-south cycling route, improving the city’s bus routes, and fill in gaps in the sidewalk network.

Also included in the plan is a “Road Diet” for James Street, which the document says will add on-street bike lanes from Victoria Avenue to Edward Street/Golf Links Road. Similar work is being proposed for Oliver Road/John Street from Balmoral to Court Street.

The plan is expected to come back to Council on September 9.
