Thunder Bay resident receives provincial recognition for volunteer work

A Thunder Bay resident has been awarded a significant provincial honour for his work as a volunteer in the community.

Dr. Prashant Jani has been awarded the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism.

Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland presented the award at a ceremony on Monday.

The June Callwood Award is one of the province’s highest honours for volunteer service, given to individuals who demonstrate exceptional community leadership and long-standing dedication to volunteerism.

Each year up to 25 individuals can be recognized, but this year only 20 were selected.

Dr. Jani is active in the Thunder Bay community, helping organize initiatives like the Festival of India, the Festival of Colours, and the Food for Life program.

“I am deeply humbled to receive this honour,” said Dr. Jani. “This award reflects the spirit of teamwork and selfless service shared by so many volunteers and supporters in our community.”

He also supports the Vedic Cultural Centre and serves as both an Associate Professor at NOSM University and a pathologist at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre

The award is given out in memory of the late author and journalist, June Callwood, and recognizes the leadership, innovation and contributions of individual volunteers, volunteer administrators and volunteer organizations who support their communities.
