Before Harrison Ford took the role as Han Solo in ‘Star Wars’, George Lucas hand delivered the script to Al Pacino, hoping he’d play the captain of the Millennium Falcon.
Pacino, turned down the role, explaining to ‘ET’ that he just didn’t understand the plot: “I was doing a show on Broadway at the time, and they handed me this script, and I thought, I don’t understand…I must be out of space myself. I looked at this thing and I sent it to my friend and mentor. I said, ‘What do you make of this?’ He was pretty wise and he said, ‘I don’t get it, Al. I dunno. I don’t get it.’ I said, ‘Well, I don’t either; what are we going to do? They offered me a fortune, but I don’t know.”
Pacino has previously joked that he turned down the role because he was “in the mood to give Harrison Ford a career.”
AND NOW…you know!
