Another proposed soccer facility has gotten zoning approval from the city.
Robert Zanette is the developer of a project proposed for a lot near the corner of Oliver and Golf Links Roads. The plans lay out a dome with two fields as well as a six-storey hotel.
The developer wants to have the hotel portion of the project built within three years.
One of Council’s concerns was that the hotel will not be built at all or will be delayed, causing the city to lose out on revenue. However, they were advised by city staff that there is no way to enforce a requirement to build the hotel alongside the dome.
Zanette emphasizes he plans to construct both structures, adding the business from the dome will support the hotel and vice versa.
Zanette, who was involved with the soccer bubble at the CLE and a dome at Confederation College, also asked Council for money earlier this year for a dome on 11th Avenue.
