VIDEO: Women Will Curl To Fight Cancer

Roughly 200 women will compete in the 24th Bearskin Airlines Hope Classic at the Fort William Curling club on February 7-9th.

The purpose is to raise money for the Linda Buchan Centre for Breast Screening and Assessment, a centre 32-year cancer survivor Glenice Quesnelle truly appreciates.

“It saves you a lot. I can go there anytime I want, if I’m in dire straits, they would help me right away. I have no trouble with them, I have very good doctors, I have very good nurses. The Linda Buchan Centre is wonderful.” The 81-year old adds to fight cancer you have to be strong and have good family and friends.

Chair Sue Childs tells us how the weekend curling match will go.

“You have to be here to see 200 women in a room, for 2 and half days, having fun, laughing, it’s camaraderie, they’re renewing friendships from the year before. It’s not about the curling, it’s a community event.”

To date, more than $3.3-million has been raised for the Centre by this tournament.
