There’s a new website that partners businesses with unsold food with charities who are in dire need of donations.
Spokesperson Pat Joslin tells us they launched the website FoodRescue last year and recently started offering their services in Thunder Bay.
“When they have surplus food, or food that is coming up on its best-by date, they just log into their account,” he explains. “They post what items they have, the amount, the timeframe in which it can be picked up, [and] organizations on the platform receive notifications about the donations.”
Second Harvest is a food rescue charity and is behind the creation of the website.
Joslin explains it’s “perfectly edible, good food,” adding they want to save it from ending up in the landfill.
The initiative locally is being utilized by the Regional Food Distribution Association.
