OPP Will “Find Truth” In Death Re-Investigations

The lead official looking into nine Indigenous deaths in Thunder Bay is vowing to keep the loved ones of the victims up to date on their re-investigations.

Retired OPP Detective Superintendent Ken Leppert tells us they will be giving regular, in-person updates.

“I will make myself available to the executive, to the victim’s family, to the communities–both the local communities where the victims are from, as well as the general community of Thunder Bay.”

The lead investigator notes they will be starting with reviewing the files of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s original investigations into the deaths.

“It’s very difficult to predict where it’s going to go, because our focus at that point becomes–as it is throughout–finding the truth, and in order to get there, it’s critical that we have the availability to follow the evidence.”
