Weather Statement: Heavy Rain Expected

Heavy rain is in the forecast, prompting a weather alert from Environment Canada.

They’re issuing a special weather statement for the city and surrounding communities.

Meteorologist Ryan Rozinskis says they expect between 20 and 30 millimetres of rain along the west shore of Lake Superior this morning, and then along the north and east shore in the afternoon and evening.

Some areas could get up to 50 millimetres by Tuesday morning, including Nipigon and Rossport which are under a rainfall warning.

The rain will be heaviest this afternoon and taper off by Tuesday morning.

Rozinskis says while there could be localized flooding in some areas, one of the main hazards to look out for is your car’s tires skidding on wet roads.
