Many of us will be outdoors this long weekend and the Thunder Baty District Health Unit is advising you to be wary of ticks.
With the city now a risk area for Lyme disease, health unit spokesperson Ken Deacon tells us it’s not an illness you want to catch.
He says the affects can be with you the rest of your life.
The symptoms include; a bullseye rash, a mild fever, and you might even think you are getting the flu.
If the disease is allowed to progress, you could face joint pain, immune problems, and muscle paralysis to your face commonly known as Bell’s palsy.
The health unit official says take all precautions necessary to avoid contact with ticks, like wearing long sleeve shirts in the bush, and tucking your pants into your socks.
