Fishing Season Is Here

You can expect increased enforcement on area lakes this May long weekend.

The fishing season has arrived to northwestern Ontario, something Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Conservation Officer Rick Leblanc tells us means they’ll be making the rounds to ensure anglers follow the rules.

The walleye rules haven’t changed: if you have a sports licence you may keep four of that species, and only two if you have a conservation licence.

MNRF officials also reminds you to be safe out on the water.

Leblanc emphasizes that your lifejacket is “of very little use to you unless it’s on your body”, adding that falling into the water is an emergency situation.

He notes your boat should also be equipped with common-sense items like rope, an anchor, and paddles.
