Vote Tonight On Revised Truck Route By-Law

The designated truck route by-law is back at City Council tonight with some changes.

City staff say they are trying to address some concerns with the previous version which was rejected in June.

The updates for Councillors to debate include allowing drivers to complete multiple deliveries inside the city without returning to the truck route after each drop-off.

The revised by-law also allows the owner of a heavy truck to be charged if the driver breaks the rules, which staff says will encourage obeying the by-law.

It makes more exceptions for city vehicles that are over the weight restrictions but have to do work outside of the truck route.

Even with a yes vote tonight, there are more steps before it’s finalized.
