Turf Facility Funding On City Radar

The proposed indoor turf facility at Chapples Park will be one step closer to reality if city council approves the next step in the process.

The City of Thunder Bay’s Community Services General Manager Kelly Robertson tells us Councillors will be asked to approve submitting the $26.4 million project for funding from the federal and provincial governments.

Breaking that down, the city would be responsible for just over $7 million, the provincial contribution would work out to $8.8 million, and the federal contribution $10.5 million.

Other projects being requested for funding approval include almost $5 million in renovations to the Fort William Gardens, $1.5 million for the Legion Track at Fort William Stadium, improvements to the waterfront festival grounds at $5 million and another $4 million will be requested for renovations to the Waverly Library.
