Too Early For Evacuees To Return Home

It’s still too early for Thunder Bay’s city manager to tell when evacuees from the forest fires will be heading home.

However, Norm Gale tells us the forest fire situation is slowly improving.

“I don’t have any specific details to that end, but it’s improving. However, communities remain at risk, and the circumstances are not completely resolved yet.”

Thunder Bay’s city manager adds while discussions continue as to when evacuees will go home, this city remains committed to ensuring the comfort of people here.

He says work continues with about six First Nation groups in northern Ontario.

“There are discussions on evacuees returning home, but these types of discussions are routine, in any evacuation, we prepare for that, when that inevitably happens. No determinations have been made as of today.”

Gale is also very impressed with how this city has stepped forward, adding Thunder Bay has never said no to helping.

“These people are here under duress. They’re being chased from their homes, by a fire or by smoke. This is an imminent risk to life and to their communities. It’s gotta be a horrible place.”

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
