T-wolves Add Up The Cost Of Lost Games

Lakehead University sporting officials are trying to work out how much money they lost because of the ice problems at the Fort Williams Gardens.

The Thunderwolves men’s hockey team was forced to cancel two home games as a result.

Athletics Director Tom Warden is reluctant to put a dollar figure on the amount just yet explaining he is still compiling a list before he begins talks with the City of Thunder Bay on possible compensation.

Warden points out money was lost on a variety of fronts including the sales at the concession stands, beer and merchandise sales, along with the 50/50 draws.

He also indicates the team had to pay a penalty for the plane tickets which were canceled for the Laurentian Voyageurs, the hockey team the Thunderwolves were scheduled to play September 20th and 21st.

Warden says “it does add up,” but he is willing to have “an open dialogue” with the city over the matter.

The team already offered the 800 or so season ticket holders a choice of several options such as using the two tickets from the lost games for two tickets to any regular season game, using both tickets for one playoff game, or donating them to Special Olympics.

City Community Services Manager Kelly Robertson confesses she needs “to hear more” from the Thunderwolves on what their situation is” before commenting.
