Offender Transfer Training Needed: Union

There’s some head scratching by a union head of Thunder Bay’s correctional centre after the province decided local officers would take care of prisoner transfer around the region.

Shawn Bradshaw tells us his men aren’t properly trained.

“Somebody’s made a really poor decision, and they think they’re saving money, which is really not the case.”

The Union president says they’ve been denied training by the government, after it took the work away from another provincial government body September 9th.

“We’re saying up here in the north, we have distances that are unique, with lots of lonely highway, dangerous highway.”

The union President adds there’s been times when 4 correctional officers have had to do a particular job, which normally would’ve been done by 2 provincial bailiffs.
