Ontario Power Generation is closing down the Thunder Bay Generating Station on Mission Island.
It notes it’s because of the high repair costs associated with “significant corrosion damage that was found to the boiler” at the station along with high operational costs.
It’s been determined that shutting down the station now is in the best interests of electricity customers and is part of the plan to lower electricty costs in the province.
They indicated that this decision will save Ontario electricity customers $40 million and avoid $5 million in costs to OPG.
No employees in Thunder Bay will lose their job according to today’s statement and talks are going on with unions to find other employment opportunities within the organization. (Photo:opg.com)
