A local business owner and five others are facing animal cruelty charges.
The District Humane Society says the owner and associates of Thunder Bay Reptiles are charged under the Criminal Code and the Ontario SPCA Act.
They are accused of causing and permitting distress to animals, and not complying with standards of animal care.
The charges are connected to several investigations this year which in one case investigators says they found Reptiles, Ferrets, Rabbits, and numerous other exotic species living in deplorable conditions.
In a unrelated case, a 46-year-old Thunder Bay woman has been found guilty of animal cruelty under the Ontario SPCA Act.
The District Humane Society reports Lynda McCallum was fined a total of $4,000 in the case which involved cats.
She was found to have violated four cruelty counts which included causing distress to animals and not providing them with adequate food and water.
It involves a case which dates back to an investigation of a Dorion home in October of 2017.
Finally, a 50-year-old Thunder Bay man has been found guilty of animal cruelty.
The District Humane Society tells us the charge was laid after an inspection of his residence in May of last year and involved the care of a dog.
As a result they say Hugh McNally was found guilty of failing to provide adequate and appropriate medical attention and fined $300.
