The Return Of Toys For The North

Gearing up for an annual holiday event.

The Toys for the North campaign is set to go with the shipment expected to arrive at the Thunder Bay International Airport in early December on a Hercules aircraft.

Spokesperson Andrew Wagar tells Acadia News the program is fully conducted by volunteers.

“Every single item is donated,” added Wagar. “Every present, if you can believe, is individually wrapped in donated wrapping paper by the RCMP and retired RCMP officers. Then it’s delivered by snowmobile, trucks and what have you, to these communities throughout Northern Ontario, Eastern Canada and Manitoba.”

A number of partners are involved in the delivery of the toys to First Nation communities, including the Thunder Bay RCMP.

After the toys are sorted they’ll be transported to North Star Air bases in Red Lake and Pickle Lake where they will then be delivered by air to Pikangikum, Muskrat Dam, Bearskin Lake, and North Spirit Lake.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
