Thunder Bay Fire Service responded to an automatic fire alarm on Norah St. early Saturday morning.
Upon arrival they found smoke on the main floor along with the home owner, who they rushed outside. The owner was then treated for smoke inhalation by firefighters and later paramedics.
The fire was quickly found in the kitchen and put out. Further search of the building led to 2 cats being discovered who were in good condition and taken to a safe area.
According to a media release, the fire was detected early on by an alarm system that helped with the extinguishment.
A total of six pumpers responded, one aerial ladder and one command unit with the Platoon Chief.
Thunder Bay Fire Service is again reminding people that working smoke alarms save lives, and to never leave cooking food unattended.
