Tbaytel Expands High-Speed Network

Tbaytel is offering high-speed internet to more rural communities in the region.

It finished the second year of work to install its Regional Fixed Wireless Internet network, rolling it out to 48 communities.

Those include Fort William First Nation, Sioux Lookout, the Municipality of Neebing, Nipigon, and Pic Mobert.

It uses radio signals to transmit an internet connection to an antenna on a home or business, instead of a wired connection. Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh says that is better-suited to remote and rural communities with low population density and “difficult terrain.”

The network is expected to take another year to fully complete, and stretches from Kenora to Pic Mobert.
