TBay Sees Interest To Sponsor Syrians

Thunder Bay’s Multicultural Association says there are seven sponsorship groups in the city waiting to settle Syrian refugee families.

Executive Director Cathy Woodbeck says the process right now is waiting for refugees to be screened by the United Nations. She says once movement starts happening out of Syria, the groups will be notified if there is a family that matches what they’re looking for.

Woodbeck adds that, because refugees are not government-sponsored, the number of families that come to Thunder Bay is really a matter of how many local groups are willing to become sponsors.
