VIDEO: Law Enforcement Gives Back To Games

Local law enforcement personnel are giving over $44,000 to the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

Games Chair Barry Streib tells us this donation will go along way towards them hosting the event in three weeks’ time.

“Every dollar counts and this is significant and it really helps for our goal to ensure that we have very successful games at the end of the day,” Streib said.

The funds were raised by police members in northwestern Ontario involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

“The bond between law enforcement and Special Olympics is alive and well in Thunder Bay and the surrounding area,” says local zone coordinator Tara Bottan.

Bottan notes the donation is extra special because the money was raised locally and will be going towards such an important event in Thunder Bay.

The games are quickly approaching with Streib saying they have enough volunteers in place and their venues are ready just waiting for the final touches.

The Draft An Athlete Program is close to its $300,000 fundraising goal, but an additional $60,000 still needs to be raised.

The Games take place February 25-29.
