SIU concludes investigation of woman’s death in 2023

After a lengthy investigation, the Ontario Special Investigation Unit has determined a Thunder Bay Police officer was not criminally negligent in the death of a 21-year-old woman.

The incident started on December 30th of 2023, when police received three 911 calls from a residence in the area of Balmoral Street and Oliver Road.

After responding to the first 911 call, a second call was cancelled.

The third call was made after the woman was found deceased, hanging in a closet.

The SIU says the length of time it took to conclude the investigation was the result of the complexity of the investigation and resource issues at the SIU.
