Seriously

Last night some less than happy news came through the internet with regards to a store closure in town. By now, most people in town have heard that Lowe’s will be closing in the new year and regardless of your feeling about or experience in the store, it’s a blow to the community. That’s 120 people who have families, pay taxes, use transit, buy groceries…in short, support the economy of Thunder Bay. 120 people who now have to try and decide, ‘what’s next?’ at a time when Thunder Bay is already facing employment issues. These people aren’t making millions of dollars, or doing all of their living and spending outside of the city, they are our neighbours, our friends, our family members, our community. I’ve been a big believer in ‘Don’t Read The Comments’ but I’ve been following the comments today (feeling like punishing myself I guess) and I’m saddened by the responses I’m reading.

First off, people who found out just before the holidays that their job is not going to be there any longer, don’t need your opinion on customer service, or pricing for that matter.

Secondly, a store closing in town, ANY store closing in town means more people out of work, more people who are going to need help and support…let me say that part again…SUPPORT, not criticism of past employers.

Before you jump on your keyboard and start talking about how bad a company or experience was, please consider that maybe this isn’t what these people need to see right now. Give some consideration as to how YOU would feel if you were in the same position (and you might be someday).

The internet is a wonderful place for everyone to vent and express their opinion, please try to remember that there are real people, with real lives reading what you are writing.
