The spotlight of racism continues to fall on northwestern Ontario Senator Lynn Beyak.
The Senate has suspended Beyak for the remainder of the Parliamentary session without pay.
Earlier this year Senate Ethics Officer Pierre Legault ruled she breached two sections of the Senate Code of Ethics when she posted letters to her Senate website which were deemed racists by two fellow Senators who complained about them.
One of those letters called into question whether Indian Residential Schools were harmful.
After an inquiry, which lasted much of 2018 and into this year, Legault concluded Senator Beyak did not uphold the highest standards of her position.
The ethics officer also notes she refused to remove the letters from her website.
The suspension is only in effect until the new government is elected in the fall.
