Rickford Wants Hwy 17 In North Fully Twinned

The ultimate goal is to twin the whole of Highway 17 across northern Ontario.

So says Northern Development and Mines Minister Greg Rickford.

He says yesterday’s announcement of agreements with local first nations is just the beginning.

“What we do know is the previous provincial government to failed to meet the indigenous engagement threshold that these communities were in,” says Rickford.

“We signed memorandums of agreement in a year and a half and that’s an incredible accomplishment.”

Rickford says the goal is not to halt delays on other twinning projects in northern Ontario, but the get the double-laning of Highway 17 west of Kenora underway.
