RFDA Recieves $35K Donation

New funding for the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) is going towards their new food processing room.

The money comes from Newmont Musselwhite, who say it is important to support the RFDA more than ever.

“Newmont Musselwhite is pleased to partner with the Regional Food Distribution Association to ensure healthy food can be distributed to those in need. This pandemic continues to challenge all of us in some way, and our commitment to protect the health and safety of our workforce and neighbouring communities will remain our top priority.”

Eexecutive Director of the RFDA Volker Kromm explains a little more about where the funding is going specifically.

“Now that we have things like vegetables and frozen meat coming our way, we need to be able to manage that, and the facilities weren’t available,” says Kromm. “We needed to get funding for pieces of equipment, and we needed home for that equipment and that’s where Newmont Musselwhite came in.”

Kromm goes on to explain the communities that will benefit from the new food processing room.

“Some of the food will go north, some of them will go to our partners in Ignace, and Dryden, and Sioux Lookout, so there is a home for all these vegetables.”

One of the new pieces of equipment the RFDA has that will help their services includes a state of the art food processing machine which costs around $66,000.
