Rental Policy Review Due In September

A conversation around conversion therapy evolved into a discussion about who is renting city facilities and for what reason.

Council approved an amendment put forward by the Northwood Representative to take another look at Thunder Bay’s rental facility policies.

Administration reported back to council on conversion therapy.

Bill C-4 came into effect on January 7th 2022, amending Canada’s Criminal Code in relation to the practice.

They concluded that because of this bill, there is no clear role for the municipality when it comes to regulation or enforcement.

In Ontario, a person’s sexual orientation and gender identity is protected under the Health Insurance Act, but only until the age of 18.

Staff will report back by the September 12th meeting.
