Remembrance Day 2021

Today is a day to remember and thank our brave men and women for serving our Country. Today on my show I was telling stories and honouring those that have fought in battle. My Grandfather was a World War II veteran who served mostly with the Royal Montreal Regiment. He traveled the world fighting for our freedoms. Below is a picture of the regiment he served with.

I actually got to talk to my Uncle today who shared a story with me about my Grandpa and it means a lot to me that I can share it with you!! My Grandfather was my best friend there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him especially on days like today.

My Grandfather was 17 when he went away to war and I can’t even imagine what that must have been like. When I was 17 I was thinking about boys and going to the movies with my friends. My Grandfather and Grandmother actually helped to raise me as both my parents were alcoholics. One story I will never forget is when I was about 11 I was struggling to find myself and to cheer me up my Grandpa took me out to go shopping and helped me pick out clothes. I will always owe it to him for making me the person I am today.

My good friend Bev also read a Poem about a family friend “Uncle Dougie” who joined the navy at 15 and was sunk 3 times which she read on air. In case you missed it you can give it a listen below.
