Significant changes expected to ceremonies and ways we honour those who served our country.
Less than 30 days out from Remembrance Day and those with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5 are holding out hope for at least one in person ceremony.
Poppy Chairperson and veteran Sharon Scott says thus far the annual service at Fort Williams Gardens is a no-go due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the one at Waverley Park will depend on gathering limits, among other factors.
One initiative that is a go is the poppy campaign: “Some organizations can’t have [the boxes] for health reasons, they want to ensure the health and well-being of their staff and customers,” says Sharon Scott.
One alternative that Scott says is in the works is a drive by event on November 7th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00pm at 229 Van Norman Street.
“There will be an opportunity to purchase poppies to help with donations towards veterans. We’re also looking at including other small items to help the cause,” indicates Scott.
Sharon Scott says the poppy boxes are expected to go out by October 30th.
