Students with the Lakehead Public School Board are not going to school today or tomorrow.
It is because of the strike by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.
Local EFTO official Mike Judge insists it was not the union who scuttled last week’s contract talks but the Ford government.
“We were at the finish line it was ready to be done and they (the government) chose an about-face…and to do that at the last minute was inexplicable,” said Judge.
The association is also planning two days of strike action next week if there is no deal reached with the government before then.
It is the third teachers union to go on strike this week. On Tuesday the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation were also off the job closing all English schools in Thunder Bay.
