Province Helps Fund City Audit

The City of Thunder Bay is one of the 34 communities in the province which have accepted the Ford government’s offer of a free audit.

City Manager Norm Gale tells us that in March, Council voted in favour of a program and services review to be conducted by Grant Thornton.

That was before the province agreed to pay the cost as part of a promise to municipalities to fund such audits.

The city then applied to the government for the funding and was granted $230,000 towards the cost, which Gale believes is a total of about $270,000.

Gale explains the final number of what the government will pay remains to be seen, but he is hopeful the city “can get as much funding” as it can.

The issue is on the City Council agenda for Monday evening.
